Literature Text

I spend my life
Staring at the sky
Staring at the moon
Staring my days by
I basked in the sunlight
Feel it's arms warming
Feel it's light waning
Feel the birds swarming

Oh, I wish I was home
Drinking the clouds dry
Dancing in orbit
Floating and free
Why was I born wingless
I was not built for
This gravity

On the ground
You are hemmed in
By mountains and trees
By homes and wires
By cliffs and seas
On the ground
You feel heavy
Your bones can splinter
Your legs can chafe
Your feet can blister

Oh, I wish I was home
Breathing in starlight
Sinking in nebulas
Floating and free
Let my hand go, I'm weightless
Floating above you
So much to see

And when I sail the sky above
Like rowers in a boat
And the stars scintillate my skin
And sparkle as I float
And when the satellites let me hitch a ride
From place to place
Maybe I'll rest in a cloud
Condensing with the rain

Oh, so glad to be home
Done with this wind-chill
Forgetting failures
Floating and free
I weep for the wingless
I didn't get to bring with me.
